Mongolia has been unanimously approved as a full member of Pacific Economic Cooperation Council during the PECC Standing Committee meeting held on July 24-25, 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand.
In August 2008, a press conference was called to media by the Mr. Odkhuu Durzee, MP and the Chariman of MONPECC, Mr. Narankhuu Khalzkhuu, Minister of Industry and Commerce and Vice-Chairman of MONPECC, and Mr. Jargalsaikhan Dambadarjaa, Secretary General of MONPECC. The press conference was held in the Press room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mongolia had been an associate member since 2000 and had regularly been participating in the activities of the PECC. MONPECC has been making efforts to establish business contacts between Mongolian business communities and potential business partners of the Asia – Pacific region and provide them with information on business and investment opportunities in Mongolia.
MONPECC seeks to expand its Government, Business, and Research councils and remain actively committed to PECC and APEC processes.
MONPECCseminar with Dr. Hugh T. Patrick, a member of USPECC and a professor of Graduate School of Business, ColumbiaUniversity, was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Itgemjit meeting room on June 6th.
Mr. Jargalsaikhan D., Secretary General of MONPECC, opened the seminar by his welcoming speech and introduced MONPECC acitivites to seminar participants. Dr. Hashchuluun Ch., MONPECC board member and a Director of School of Economic Studies of National University of Mongolia, made a briefing on Mongolian Economy. The briefing was followed by a short presentation on Mongolian Asian Policy by Mr. Sereejav J., a Director of Press Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The 1st Quarter State of the Region Survey (SOTR) report and press release has been released on 30 May. The report provides Pacific economic outlook and economic forecast and is updated every quarter.
This Q1 update to economic outlook is based on the March 2008 inputs from PECC’s panel of 16 economies. The report coordinator is Mr Yuen Pau Woo, President of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada based in Vancouver.
Pacific Economic Outlook (PEO) meetings of PECC held Mar 16-19, 2008 in Osaka, Japan. The meetings were hosted and organized by the Japan Committee of PECC. Mr. Batbold Zagdragchee, a member of MONPECC Research Council, attended the meetings and presented on External Adjustments under Increasing Integration - Mongolia – Country Paperand also he facilitated the sessions on economies of Republic of Korea and Thailand.
PECC-ABAC Conference on Demographic Change and International Labor Mobility in the Asia Pacific Region held in Seoul on March 25-26, 2008. The conference brought together labor migration and social policy experts and official from PECC economies.
Experts from international organizations such as International Labor Organization and International Organization for Migration, foreign ministry officials from countries, and business such as Microsoft attended the conference.
The conference aimed at (a)collecting information about national policies on international labor mobility and assess the normative basis of those policies from the national and regional perspectives, and (b)discuss and develop the agenda for policy cooperation among the APEC governments, and (c)undertake a descriptive analysis of the current trends in international labor movement in the APEC region and the factors contributing to them and assess the trends for the future, (d) analyze the impacts of those trends on the economies of destination and origin as well as on the APEC region as a whole.
World Politics, the TV program series of the Mongolian National Broadcasting (MNTV), brought in speakers on February 3rd of 2008, to address the theme of Mongolian integration into the Asia-pacific region. Included speakers were Dr. Tumurchuluun G., a Deputy Director of Policy Planning, Information and Monitoring Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia; Mr. Jargalsaikhan D., Secretary General of MONPECC; and Mr. Bailikhuu D., a member of Research Council for MONPECC. The speakers discussed regional economic integration and membership to APEC. They also talked about the benefits Mongolia could gain from Asia-Pacific integration, facilitating a knowledge economy, improving Mongolian governance, and some other current issues surrounding the Mongolian economy.
23rd Pacific Economic Community to be hosted by CTPECC on 7 October 2008. This is the main event of the PECC international project on "Climate Change & Green Opportunities: Business, Society, and Cooperation".
